LOGGINS & MESSINA Come to FITZ'S JAZZ CAFÉ

at THE McCALLUM Sept. 7

Co-Presented by McCallum Theatre and KJJZ’s Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald

Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina, one of the most successful duos of the '70s, have reunited after nearly 30 years apart and will bring their delightful mix of heartfelt ballads and rocking rhythms to the McCallum Theatre for one night only, Wednesday, September 7 at 8pm.

Loggins & Messina’s music rocked the hearts and rolled through the souls of an entire generation. Their mark is still felt and heard in some of the music of today. Not since 1976 have audiences had the opportunity to see what critics hailed as one of the best live acts of the early 70s.

When they first met, Jim Messina was already a well-established rock star, having produced and played with the legendary bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco. Kenny Loggins, meanwhile, was a young singer-songwriter with far less experience, but with talent to burn as evidenced by early compositions like "House At Pooh Corner” and "Danny’s Song." Their first album together, Sittin' In (1972) was originally envisioned as a one-off joint release but became a major smash hit.

So as if by public demand, this accidental duo was created. Over the next four years, they sold 16,000,000 albums and became one of rock’s most popular draws. The two parted ways in 1976. Loggins went on to score mega-hits such as "Whenever I Call You Friend" and "I'm Alright" (from the film "Caddyshack"), while Messina reunited with Poco, and later released five solo albums.

Until a recent series of low-key benefit performances together, there had been precious little contact between the two men. When Messina joined Loggins at a benefit at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theater last year, Loggins noticed something else. "As soon as we hit the harmonies, I was struck by the fact that I hadn’t heard that sound in a long time," he says. "It hit me like the Everly Brothers hit me the first time they got back together. There was something that in thirty years I had not been able to duplicate with anyone else. There’s a spark here that I’ve completely forgotten about."
For both men the chance to be Sittin’ In Again represents what Jimmy Messina calls "a great and meaningful opportunity."

"I’m really looking forward to the audiences," says Kenny Loggins. "I'm looking forward to seeing good friends from long ago and, I'm hoping, some of the friends I’ve picked up along the way. And then... well, and then we'll just see where it goes from there."

Desert Lexus, Luxury Resort Properties, El Paseo Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, Gardens on El Paseo, KJJZ-FM and Time Warner sponsor Fitz’s Jazz Café at the McCallum’s presentation of Loggins and Messina.
